You may make either mug rugs or placemats. The finished weaving may be either "hand-fulled" or "felted" This decision needs to be made before warping because felted items will shrink more than "hand-fulled" items. "Hand-fulled” items may have fringe. Felted items should not have fringe because of the amount of shrinkage during the felting process.
Beginner who has used a rigid heddle loom at least once.
You will need a rigid heddle loom with a 7.5 dent heddle, minimum loom width 19 inches for Felted, or minimum loom width 16 inches for "Hand-Fulled". Sleying (threading) hook, the usual tools (scissors, yarn needle, measure, etc.)
Looms are available for Rent from HOKC for $25 per week. Call in advance to reserve as supplies are limited.
You will need non-superwash wool in worsted weight. Malabrigo or Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride for Warp. You can use Universal Deluxe Worsted or Noro Kureyon for weft. Note: the Lamb's Pride seems to be a bit more difficult to get a good shed with.
Yardage for "Hand-Fulled" Warp: Malabrigo - 2 or more skeins, OR Lamb's Pride - 3 or more skeins. Weft: Universal Deluxe Worsted - 2 or more skeins OR Noro Kureyon 2 or more skeins.
Yardage for Felted Warp: Malabrigo - 4 or more skeins OR Lamb's Pride - 6 or more skeins. Weft: Universal Deluxe Worsted - 4 or more skeins OR Noro Kureyon 4 or more skeins.
