Inkle Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom with Peggy via Zoom

Classification: Warp-faced weave

Weave Structure: Tabby

Project: Bookmarks

No need for an additional loom to weave Inkle Bands. Make belts, bookmarks, straps and decorations in this very old Scandinavian style on any size rigid heddle loom. You will make bookmarks in this class.

Designs are made by the warp threading order of 2 or more colors of yarn.

SuggestedYarn:

Fairly smooth yarns in whatever two or more colors you wish.

Good choices for yarn are Berroca Pima 100, Circulo Charme or Happy Cotton.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Adventurous Beginner. You will need to know how to warp your loom, either direct warping or indirect warping. Indirect warping will be a bit easier than direct warping on this project.
Requirements: You will need a rigid heddle loom of any size, a heddle that is 10‑dent, 12.5-dent or 15‑dent, and the Yarn Kit from HOKC. Because Inkle is a warp-faced weave you will need a stick for beating in the weft. It can be a pickup stick, craft stick, paper-folding stick or any similar item. You will also need a piece of flat plastic that is 2 inches by 4 inches. This can be cut from a plastic lid such as comes on some coffee containers, margarine tubs, and ice cream tubs. Sleying (threading) hook, the usual tools (scissors, yarn needle, measure, etc.). You can rent looms from HOKC for $25.00 per week. Be sure arrange the rental in advance as loom supply is limited.
