Trouble Shooting in Brioche Knitting with Molly on Zoom - demonstration



Learn to fix common mistakes: where did the yarn over go? How to fix a dropped stitch? How to reach down and fix a mistake? How to avoid common errors.

The class is free when you purchase the two skeins of yarn needed for the class.  The skeins must be contrasting colors!!  We suggest Berroco Vintage or Berroco Ultra Wool.  You can use this same swatch for the "Increases and Decreases in Brioche" class on Thursday.

Prerequisite: You must know how to work brioche to take this class.  If you cannot do the homework, consider taking some of the basic classes first.
 
Homework:
Using US 6 Circular or Double pointed needles, and with Light color, Cast on 20 sts.

Set up rows:

Set up Row 1:

DS with dc: K1, (yf sl1yo, k1) rep to end.  (Slide sts back to other end of needle).

DS with lc: Sl 1 wyib, (sl1yof, brp1) rep to last st, sl 1 wyib (drop yarn to the back).  (Turn work)

Set up Row 2:

LS with dc: P1, (yf sl1yof, brp1) rep to last st, p1. (Slide sts back to other end of needle)

LS with lc: Sl 1 wyif – take yarn to back, (brk, yf sl1yo) rep to last 2 sts, brk 1 (drop the yarn to the front of your work – coming all the way over your needle), sl 1 wyif. (Turn work)

 

Ongoing Pattern:

Row 1:

DS with dc: K1 (brk1, yf sl1yo) rep to last st, k1. (Slide sts back to other end of needle)

DS with lc: Sl 1wyib, (yf sl1yof, brp1) rep to the last st, (drop yarn to the back), sl 1 wyib. (Turn work)

Row 2:

LS with dc: P1, (yf sl1yof, brp1) rep to last st, p1. (Slide sts back to other end of needle)

LS with lc: Sl 1 wyif – take yarn to back of work, (brk, yf sl1yo) rep to last st,  (drop the yarn to the front of your work – bringing yarn all the way over the needle), sl 1 wyif. (Turn work)

Rep Rows 1 & 2 of ongoing pattern until piece measures approximately 4” from co edge, ending with Row 4.

If you make a mistake, do not try to fix it!!  We will try to fix in class.

Slip one stitch purl wise with the yarn held to the front of your work
Sl1 yof =

With the yarn held to the front of your work (towards you) slip next st purlwise and take yarn to back over the needle to work the next stitch.
Yf sl1 yof = With the yarn held to the front of your work (towards you) slip next st purlwise, leave the yarn in the front to work the next stitch.
