The Garter Tab: An Evolutionary Journey - on Zoom with Nancy Lekx

Many of you will remember Nancy from the Thursday Lunch Chat we had with her.  At that time she promised to teach us a better tab cast-on.  Here it is!

Most top-down shawls begin with a garter tab that creates a seamless
start for the body and borders of your shawl, but it isn’t necessarily intuitive, and can be fiddly to complete. This class will begin with the traditional instructions for a garter tab, then work through a series of tips and tricks, ending with a technique for knitting the garter tab without having to pick up any stitches at all. While this class is more of a demonstration than a workshop, I will go slow enough for people to knit along if they want to do so. There will be time for questions, and for you to discuss which tips best suit your needs and knitting style.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Attendee should be able to cast on stitches (any method) and knit; other techniques will be demonstrated
Materials Included: A handout will be provided
Requirements: Those who want to knit along will need: stash yarn and suitable 32? circular needle for working with chosen yarn, 4 removeable stitch markers, hook-shaped cable needle, smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on and for life lines
Instructor: Nancy Lekx
Instructor Bio: Nancy Lekx lives in a small town on the southern shore of Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada?a beautiful location that provides inspiration for a thriving arts and crafts community. There?s a Fall Fair with displays of all sorts, and a great craft show in December where the fee for a vendor table is $25.00 and two dozen cookies for the charity bake sale! COVID interrupted these events, and everyone is looking forward to being able to gather together at them again soon. Nancy knits interesting stitches into simple shapes, and her patterns have been published in Interweave Knits, knitscene, and A Needle Pulling Thread magazines, and by various yarn companies.
