YARNIVAL Granny Square Construction & More featuring the Box Car Wrap

The Box Car Wrap is a poncho-style shawl using 2 different colors to make four squares seamed together to complete the piece. One of the square designs is a Granny Square. I love elevating this traditional design by combining it with a complimentary and different square design to create something fun and interesting. I chose to use one variegated and one tonal color, but this is a very versatile design and could easily be made using one single color for all the squares. I created the Box Car Wrap for Forbidden Fiber Co.’s 2022 Holiday Express Advent Calendar. I was inspired by this holiday train theme, and I imagined it taking us on adventures to see family and friends during this special time of the year! Class Outline

Instructor: Maridee Dangcil
Instructor Bio: I?m Maridee Dangcil and I live and work in Los Angeles, California. When I was 12 years old, my grandmother taught me how to crochet to help pass time during an extended hospital stay. I picked it up again in 2008 and yarn has been an important part of my life ever since. In 2013, I co-launched the Yarnover Truck, the first mobile yarn shop in the United States. We won the Business Innovation award from the National Needlearts Association and were open for 10 years specializing in beautiful hand-dyed yarns. As a yarn shop owner, I learned about different yarns, fibers and the fabrics we create with them. I started to design crochet patterns out of a need for more pieces to show off the beautiful hand-dyed yarns we sold on the Yarnover Truck. I love using beautiful yarns in pieces that showcase traditional stitches in new and innovative ways.
