YARNIVAL A Curated Canadian Book Shelf

A lecture with Nancy Lekx has become a tradition at YARNIVAL!  Join us on Zoom to learn about Canada's rich literary history.

Canada has a vibrant arts scene, and that includes writing and publishing.  Today’s presentation will explore some of the Canadian greats, past and present, in many genres.  I have curated a collection of classic fiction and non-fiction, leavened by a sprinkling of poetry, and a look at some of the best recent releases.  I’ll mention some of my childhood favourites, and the controversies that have surrounded them.  I’ll discuss the work of a Nobel prize-winning author, recommend some great mystery writers, and share some writing about tasty Canadian cuisine (and not just  poutine or maple syrup).  We can’t ignore the fibre arts, and I’ll take a look at some colourful craft books before we’re done.  This is a curated collection–maybe even idiosyncratic–but I guarantee you’ll walk away with a few titles you’d like to learn more about.

The lecture is free and will be recorded.
