YARNIVAL Kick Off

Missed the Kick Off?  Click here to watch the video.

Join us on Zoom to discuss all things YARNIVAL.
Come with questions or just to hear about the amazing month we have in store!  We will do an overview of all of the events.  But don't wait for this!  Some of the classes will sell out.  Below find a quick description of classes - they are broken down by category and are ordered (within category) by date.

Click here to join the Zoom.  Meeting ID: 782 304 812   Passcode: HOKC

As a thank you for joining us for YARNIVAL classes, we are offering you a discount coupon code based on the number of classes that you sign up for.  The discounts are for yarn and supplies for classes - or stashing, we do not judge.
1 - 5 Classes: 15% off
6 - 10 Classes: 20% off
11+ Classes: 25% off
The coupons are active beginning June 17 and work all the way through July.
Small Print Stuff: Free classes and lectures do not count toward the totals.  We do not discount classes (we want our teachers well compensated!).  The coupon codes work on almost everything else - but are not on consignment, books, or Ashford Products.  And discounts are for new products only and are not combinable.  Molly will send out coupons as you purchase classes.  If you reach the next discount level you will get a new coupon code, but they are not retroactive.

We kick off YARNIVAL by participating in the Marie Greene 4 Day KAL - but be sure to join us on the 25th for a FREE prep class for the KAL.

Every Wednesday we will have FREE lectures that will transition us into Fiber Arts Night - a knit/crochet circle that happens on Zoom every Wed at 5:30 Pacific.

This may be the best line up of classes we have ever had - and there are a ton!  The over all theme is Color so great ready to have some fun!

Crochet Classes:
All are Beginner or Adventurous Beginner friendly!  You just need to know the basics - chain, single crochet, and double crochet.
Mosaic Crochet -
who better to learn Mosaic Crochet from than the woman who wrote the book, Dark and Dramatic Mosaic Crochet.  Alexis will simplify this process for you, give you tons of tips and tricks, all while making a Skull Motif Cell phone bag!  Who needs boring old motifs?
Birthday Plaid - Take a date that is important to you - birthday, anniversary, etc. - and create a custom fabric!  Barry Klein of Trendsetter yarns will walk your through choosing and combining yarns.  You will first crochet a mesh then weave into it - so many possibilities!
Groovy Granny Square Bucket Hat - Toni Lipsey, who is self admittedly obsessed with granny squares, will teach or enhance your granny square skills including choosing yarns and sewing the squares together and walks you through how to add the brim. You will be ready to rock the beach and boardwalks!

Crochet Baskets - this is an especially great class for newer crochets (although anyone will love this!).  Cate will walk you through the concept of making the baskets and get you through the tricky bits.  You can make tiny project baskets up to laundry baskets!  The secret is in the size of the base.

Color Theory
Understanding Self Striping Yarn - Stephanie Lotven wrote the book on working with self striping yarns. Stephanie shares her tried and true techniques to analyze the yarn in the hank, a foolproof swatching technique, how to combine colors, and how to cheat!
Yarn-led Pooling and Mosaic Knitting - Suzanne Nielsen's engineering background shines through in this class that combines two of our favorite color techniques - assigned pooling and mosaic knitting.  Suzanne discusses both techniques and how to combine them.
Creating a Cohesive Palette - Toni Lipsey will share her 10 Color Palette Shortcuts.  This is a class for anyone who wants to successfully play with color - so that means all of us!!  Come and join this fast paced, info packed session!
Mixing yarns is as easy as ABC  - Barry Klein will walk you through picking 3 yarns of 3 different weights and textures, and creating amazing fabrics!  Lots of patterns to choose from.

Trio of Tricolores - Nancy Lekx is bringing us a fascinating and in depth look at how to combine 3 colors - in so many different textures and fabrics.  As always, you will be amazed by her handout and details!

Stranded Knitting
Intro to Invisible Stranding - You have done enough Stranded Colorwork to knot that sometimes our floats show in our knitting - especially with spread out motifs or high contrast.  Susan Rainey will teach you an amazing technique that allows you to create flawless colorwork.  It is magic!  This is a 6 hour class with a break.
Intro to Stranded Knitting - Jill Thomson Beach is the designer behind Beachhouse Knits.  Call all your friends who want to learn stranded knitting and come join us!
Doodles - Jamie Lomax, the creator of the Doodle Cowl Series will walk you through how to create amazing stories using doodle pattern - including how to choose colors, how to combine motifs, and how to modify designs.
Applying Invisible Stranding - OK, you learned how to create ladderback jacquard/invisible stranding.  But now what?  How do you add it to patterns that are not written for it?  Susan Rainey will answer all of these question!

Other Amazing Classes!
Top Town Triangular Shawls - Join Nancy Lekx as she explores what causes the different shapes of top down triangular shawls.  Nancy's handout are always worth more than the price of her classes - and you get a fabulous free pattern!
Intro to Fusion Knitting - Mary Martin created the techniques of Fission and Fusion knitting.  A few months back we learned Fission knitting, now it is time to learn Fussion!  This is a technique that creates an organized, two color garter stitch background with single color cable motifs - they are fully reversible because each side has different colors of cables!
Embroider or Embellish your Knits - Who better to help us learn to embroider on and embellish our knitting than Nancy Bates, the author of Knitting the National Parks.  She often uses these techniques to enhance her designs.

Join us Thursdays at noon for our Thursday Lunch Chat
4th: No chat - go watch fireworks!
11th: Alexis Sixel of Dark and Dramatic Mosaic Crochet fame
18th: Circulo Yarns - We are a Flagship store!

We will have Yarn Highlights and Trunk Shows!
