Hap Spinalong
Haps are large, square shawls, blanket sized shawls. They come from the Shetlands Islands and the term "Hap" means to cover or warm. The shawls are the everyday, working shawls for women. Worn during the day for warmth and used at nights as a blanket. They are simple shawls - a garter square in the middle with a simple lace around the edge. They are traditionally made from handspun Shetland yarn.
We decided first to make a Hap during 2025 then thought, wow, it would be so cool to spin our own yarn! So we will meet twice a month - once for all of us crazy enough to spin the yarn and a second time for everyone who is knitting the shawl. Feel free to attend both sessions! The joy of spinning yarn for the hap is that we begin with a simple garter stitch square which will hide most inconsistency in the yarn. by the time we get to the lace, our spinning will be much better!
Spinning: Second Wednesday of each month
Knitting: 4th Wednesday of each month
We will meet on Zoom and the sessions will be recorded. The recordings can be found below. Please note that there may be some months with optional paid classes for spinning.
