HAPALONG
Haps are large, square shawls, blanket sized shawls. They come from the Shetlands Islands and the term "Hap" means to cover or warm. The shawls are the everyday, working shawls for women - worn during the day for warmth and used at nights as a blanket. They are simple shawls - a garter square in the middle with a simple lace around the edge. They are traditionally made from handspun Shetland yarn. Although you can use any yarn.
The Hap pictured is Gossameadow by Hazel Tindall and can be found here. It is a classic example of a hap.
I have created a bundle on Ravelry to help you choose a pattern. Click HERE to see the bundle. I will be designing my hap as we go. And... We will have Nancy Lekx knitting along with us who will be designing a hap inspired shawl.
In addition to the patterns listed above, there are also a couple of books that might be interesting to you.
The Book of Haps by Kate Davies can be found here.
