YARNIVAL Knit One Below

All YARNIVAL Classes are taught via Zoom, are recorded, and paying students have access to the recording for 30 days after the class.
Class Description:
Knitting into the row below creates a fabric that is practically identical to brioche stitch, and is sometimes considered a “cheat” by brioche-knitting fans. But knitting into the row below is a legitimate knitting technique, and fisherman’s rib is a classic stitch pattern that deserves respect!
In this class, we learn the technique of working into the row below, and explore four stitch patterns using this simple manoeuvre: half fisherman’s rib and the related bee stitch (which we will work in two colours for even more fun), fisherman’s rib, and two-colour fisherman’s rib. We’ll discuss applications of these stitch patterns, and if time permits, learn how to make two-colour vertical stripes by knitting into the row below.
Materials Needed for Class:
- Approximately 25 yards each of 2 contrasting colours of smooth DK or worsted weight yarn (preferably wool, as opposed to cotton—acrylic is fine, too)
- Appropriately sized DPN’s or circular needle for your yarn (we will need to slide our work, so single points won’t work)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
With one of your colours of yarn, cast on 15 stitches (any method) and work 1 row In 1 x 1 ribbing (i.e., * k1, p1; repeat from * to last st, k1); leave on the needle, ready to continue in class.
