Top-Down Colorwork Yoke with Molly Conroy
Learn the math for a custom (one size) Top-Down Colorwork Yoke. That yoke can turn into a sweater, poncho, swoncho, or a cowl!
We will talk about choosing and mixing colors as well as where to find motifs and how to fit them into your item. Molly will use Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Workshop and Ann Budd's Top-Down Sweaters as references. You are not required to have either book but you might want one or both if you decide to finish a sweater.
The class is designed to be hands on (but conducted online), to create your custom yoke! (Link will be emailed before class.)
Bring these materials to Class:
- Have one MC and as many small bits of contrast colors as you like - at least one; how much yarn you need depends on what you are making
- For just the yoke, have 100g of MC and 100g total of CCs
- Use the needle size recommended on your yarn ball band - you want a normal sweater gauge so you cannot see through your knitting
- Scissors
- Paper, pencil, graph paper
- Any sources you want for colorwork motifs
- Handout printed or on a separate device
Homework:
Work a 10cm/4" gauge swatch with MC.
