Leaves Afire Hat (Stranded Colorwork) Class with Sharon and Pat

This beginner stranded colorwork class introduces the student to working colorwork with both hands! You will learn an easy way to pick up the floats and end up with an attractive hat.
This class will be taught in person.
The yarn is worsted weight which is easiest to learn with. The hat fits a large child through adult woman/small man. Fits head circumference of 20” - 24”.
Materials You Bring:
- One skein Manos Del Uruguay “Ideal” (100% Polwarth Wool, 219yds, 200m, 503.5oz/100g), color E2442, Fjord or color of your choice (used as the background/main hat color), called MC
- One skein Manos Del Uruguay “Ideal” (100% Polwarth Wool, 219yds, 200m, 503.5oz/100g), color E7210, Tereré or color of your choice (used for the leaves)
- 16” Size US 7 circular knitting needles OR size needed to achieve gauge
- Set of four size US 7 double pointed knitting needles OR size needed to achieve gauge
- 10 round stitch markers, one must be contrasting to mark beginning of rounds
- One locking stitch marker (to indicate beginning of rounds)
- Small sharp scissors
- Pen or pencil for notes
- Reading glasses, if you need them
- Drink and snack, if desired
- Highlighter tape for keeping track of row on chart OR magnetic line keeper (often used for counted cross stitch)
- Yarn needle or large embroidery needle
Get gauge (ask a partner at HOKC if you need help with the circular gauge process) and work the following rounds on your circular needles: Using circular needle, co 100 sts. Place contrasting ring marker on needle to indicate beginning of rounds. Join to work in rounds. Rnds 1 - 8, using MC: (K2, p2) rep to end.
Please have homework completed by the beginning of the class.

She has owned two yarn shops and has worked in two others. Her patterns have appeared in several magazines and books and she has sold many designs to yarn companies. She co-authored a knitting book called “Amazing Lace”. A prolific designer, currently Sharon is selling her designs on ravelry.com and loveknitting.com and is teaching classes at Hands On Knitting Center. |
